Reading a fabric quotation: the five things that decide the real price
The rate per metre is the number everybody looks at, and it is rarely the number that decides what you pay.

A quotation for bulk fabric has more in it than a rate. Here is what to read before you compare two of them.
1. The quantity the rate applies to
A rate quoted at 5,000 metres is not the rate you pay for 800. Ask for the ladder, not a single figure. Ours is printed on every quotation.
2. Width
A rate per metre at 44 inches and the same rate at 58 inches are very different prices. Convert to cost per square metre before you compare anything.
3. Whether GST is in it
Most textile lines are 5% GST, some are 12%. A quotation that does not say is a quotation you cannot compare.
4. Freight and who pays it
"FOR Surat" means the price is at our gate. Freight to your door is on top. Ask for a delivered price if that is what you want to compare.
5. What happens if the shade is wrong
The cheapest quotation from a supplier with no lab-dip process is not cheap. Ask what the approval process is before the bulk lot is dyed, and what happens if it does not match.
